- Member of the Steering Committee of The New Directions Initiative, a collaboration of different universities and
institutions to integrate scientific research with the humanities in interdisciplinary partnerships for researching
multiple aspects of environmental issues. New Directions will ground its theoretical discussions in practical concerns
through workshop-conferences around case-based collaborative research. Together, three meetings (at Biosphere II and
Penn State University) and collaborative teamwork across twelve months will break new ground in both the
theoretical and practical aspects of interdisciplinary environmental research and education.
- June-July 2001 she worked in Cyprus as the humanist on a team of archeologists, geologists, arthistorians,
architects in the Troodos Archaeological Survey Project (TASP), a project of the Cyprus-American Archeological
Research Institute (CAARI) and the University of Glasgow to determine the long-term effects of landuse on the landscape.
This is a three-year archeo-geological project researching the intertwinement between natural and cultural conditions.
She works closely with soil scientist/geologist Jay Stratton Noller (Department of Crop and Soil Science, Oregon State
University, Corvallis) explicating the implicit methods used in this
interdisciplinary context. This collaboration is funded by the National Science Foundation.
