CALL FOR PAPERS

The Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies at the University of North Texas is proud to announce the twenty-first Symposium on the life and philosophy of Martin Heidegger. This Year's theme is "Interpreting the Beiträge." Argued by many as the most important work after Being and Time, the Beiträge begins with Heidegger's lamenting the state of philosophy reduced to the bland and ordinary, concerned more with "scholarly contributions" and aimed at some notion of "progress," than on thinking and questioning itself. The Heidegger 2001 Symposium is primarily interested in how a diversity of interpretations of the Beiträge can facilitate and inspire our own thinking and questioning, to get underway again, as it were, in not only our everyday lives, but within academia proper, and our living communities. We are accepting any paper and panel proposals that fit this theme. Submissions from graduate and undergraduate students will also be considered. We are especially looking for participants who want to address the following issues:

Due date for submissions is November 15, 2000. Papers should be limited to twenty (20) minutes reading time. Completed papers or 500 word abstracts will be accepted for consideration. Panel proposals should be limited to 1000 words and present the overall agenda of the panel as well as specific contributions of each participant. Papers and panels should be structured to spark conversation and dialog among symposium attendees. The organizers will seek to publish a proceedings of the best papers and panels presented at the symposium.

Please submit proposals on or before November 15, 2000
