Major/Minor in Philosophy

Major in Philosophy (Fall 2009 onward)
Beginning Fall 2009, the major requires completion of 10 classes/30 credit hours in philosophy:
- 2050 Introduction to Logic or 3300 Symbolic Logic
- 3310 Ancient Philosophy
- 3330 Modern Philosophy
- 3110 Epistemology or 4400 Metaphysics or 3600 Philosophy of Religion
- 4550 Philosophy of Science and Technology or 4750 Philosophy and Public Policy
- 4700 Environmental Ethics or 4450 Philosophy of Ecology
- 3120 Social & Political Philosophy or 3400 Ethical Theory
- Elective (any 3000-4000 level PHIL course)
- Elective (any 3000-4000 level PHIL course)
- 4970 Capstone Course – Fall semester only, Senior year seminar
Current philosophy majors may follow either this curriculum or the former curriculum (Pre-Fall 2009). All students may substitute PHIL courses to satisfy the major requirements. Please consult the undergraduate advisor, Prof. David M. Kaplan, for approval of substitutions: dkaplan@unt.edu.

- 3 Electives
Minor in Philosophy
A minor in philosophy consists of 18 semester credit hours including 9 advanced hours to be approved by the undergraduate advisor (dkaplan@unt.edu).
