Purpose of Course

To study the views of contemporary environmental ethicists with special attention to their contribution to our theoretical understanding of environmental problems together with their value in practical applications in environmental affairs.

Grading

The grade in the course will be based on class participation (including attendance), short summaries of reading assignments, and a seminar quality paper. The paper should be a comparison of the views of two or more of the philosophers studied in the class or a discussion of one view in the light of philosophical criticism in single-authored books, anthologies, or journal articles. The paper should be approximately 20 pages long, double-spaced, including footnotes. They should be placed at the end of the paper as endnotes
