The Department is the leading center for the study in environmental philosophy in North America and offers a Master of Arts in Philosophy with a Concentration in Environmental Ethics. It is equally based in the analytic and continental traditions and encourages students to study environmental issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. It works closely together with the Institute of Applied Sciences at UNT.

At the undergraduate level, the department provides a traditional philosophy program with courses in the history of philosophy, epistemology, logic, metaphysics, and other subjects, including introductory and advanced environmental ethics. It also offers an interdisciplinary minor in religion studies, in cooperation with faculty from English, history, and anthropology.

The Department, the leading center for the study in environmental ethics and environmental philosophy in North America, offers a Master of Arts in Philosophy and a PhD in Philosophy in cooperation with the University of Texas at Arlington At the undergraduate level, it provides a traditional program focused on developing a solid background in the history of philosophy, epistemology, logic, metaphysics, philosophy of science, and other subjects, including introductory and advanced work in environmental ethics.

In addition, an interdisciplinary minor in religion studies, in cooperation with faculty from English, history, and anthropology, is available to help students majoring in other fields prepare for a seminary or for graduate work in theology.

The teaching staff consists of nine permanent members, augmented by adjunct faculty, teaching fellows, and teaching assistants. The Department is active in a broad range of fields, and work in a number of research institutes and initiatives.
